How To: Customize Your Xbox 360 Live
So, you went out and bought the Xbox 360?! It was a fantastic decision, and you’ll enjoy hours upon hours of game time with your new device, but before you get started in the wide world of online games you are going to need to know how to connect the 360 to a real network.
Before you do anything you’ll need to decide how you plan to connect a bad boy. 360 supports both wired and wireless connections. In order to use a wireless connection to the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter. Personally, I think a wireless connection to be a little too temperamental for my taste, so I’m going with a wired connection through the router, but not everyone has the same wireless connection.
To configure the connection through a router unplug the router and modem and turn off the 360. Connect an Ethernet cable to one port of an existing router, then connect the cable to the back 360. Plug everything back and turn and give the modem and router for about 3 minutes to reboot.
Once you are given several minutes to reload you can turn 360 back. If you have already created a player profile you will see a screen Xbox Live. If you have not set up an account you will be prompted to do so. All you need to do is follow the instructions on the screen. It’s pretty cut and dry process, and should take no longer than 10 minutes of your time.
If you want to go wireless or you need to go wireless you’ll need to get the Xbox360 wireless network adapter. Adapters are available at most stores that sell 360 games, or you can order it online. Once you remove the AC adapter of any Ethernet cable you can connect to 360, then clip the AC adapter to the rear of 360. It’s really easy to see where it belongs, but in any case, the adapter will be sitting right next to the port USB, which is located directly above the port Ethernet. Once you cut it into the connector USB-cable, which is connected to the adapter into the port on the Xbox 360. Flip up the antenna lays flat against the adapter, and you’re set up, well almost set.
Turn your head 360 and the system tray. You will see a network of options going forward is that the screen and follow it to the “Change Settings” subcategory. The network name should appear in the list of available networks. Select your network and enter the password if a password. Exit and you should be ready to play.
It’s all very simple process, and Microsoft went ahead and made it very easy to set up a network in a very short time. From start to finish the whole installation only takes about 15 minutes, tops!
